The Pharmacy Technician Program includes two comprehensive courses (Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Calculations), online exam prep and hands-on externship:

1. Pharmacy Technician Course (60 Hours)

The first part of your pharmacy technician training provides the fundamental knowledge required of today's skilled pharmacy technicians. You will learn about the essentials of medical history, pharmacy settings, drug relations, and administration, terminology, formulating and calculating prescription, biopharmaceuticals, elements of patient interaction, pharmaceutical environments, and more.

  • • Morton's The Pharmacy Technician textbook
  • Study guide –includes detailed course instructions
  • 3 comprehensive units – twelve chapters are assigned per unit
  • Problem practice exercises
  • Multiples-choice quizzes
  • Open-book, multiple-choice final exam

Course Objectives

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Identify the roles of a pharmacy technician
  • Recall the origins of pharmacy and health care
  • Identify the different types of mail order pharmacy
  • Identify calculations used in a pharmacy setting
  • Identify pharmacy prescription abbreviations, information and the fill process
  • Identify the different types of packages that are used for unit dose medications
  • Identify drug regulation, public safety and how it relates to the pharmacy technician

2. Pharmacy Calculations (60 Hours)

The second course of Allied's Pharmacy Technician Program is pharmacy calculations. This course will provide you with a firm foundation of common pharmacy calculations. Using basic math skills, you will learn how to calculate institutionally-based and community problems.

  • Morton's Pharmacy Calculations Textbook
  • 3 comprehensive units (12 chapters per unit)
  • Practice exercises
  • Multiple-choice quizzes
  • Open-book, multiple-choice final exam

Course Objectives

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Determine calculations for pharmaceutical problems used in a community pharmacy
  • Compute pharmaceutical problems used in an institutional pharmacy
  • Calculate solutions for pharmaceutical problems using basic math

3. Pharmacy Technician Online Exam Prep – This exam prep is designed to prepare you to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s (PTCB) certification exam and become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). With 450+ practice questions, you’ll get a hands-on review of vital terms and concepts.

4. Pharmacy Technician Externship – Upon successfully completing the Professional Pharmacy Technician Program and passing the PTCB exam, Allied will arrange a valuable externship experience for you. The externship will allow you to implement your newly developed skills under direct supervision in an actual work environment.

*Special Note: Call Allied to confirm externship program availability in your state. Externship placement is not guaranteed. All students must apply to the program and complete the prerequisite criteria before being accepted. Positions in the externship program are contingent on availability at each pharmacy location. Students may also set-up their own externship at any other retail or hospital facility. Externship is not available in Florida or New Hampshire.
